Los Altos High School Student Services Building

Category: Testing
Los Altos, CA

The new two-story, 25,750-square-foot Student Services building is among the most significant achievements of the second phase of the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District’s multiyear facilities improvement plan. Designed with high ceilings and school colors, the building serves as a central hub for students and staff to connect.  It hosts offices for administration, student union, and student services, and provides essential space for academic support, the counseling department, community and mental health resources, and the college and career center. There is also designated areas where students can study and collaborate.

ZFA’s structural design included special steel moment frames utilizing fixed base detailing to reduce steel weight. A horizontal steel truss was used at the second floor to address plan offsets and reduce the number of required lateral force-resisting lines. The facility also includes an independent conference room structure, designed with CLT ceiling and shear walls.
