The San Ramon Public Safety Building project involved re-purposing an existing building to serve as a fire administration facility, renovating a police facility, and constructing a new joint Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and 911 Communications Center.
ZFA provided a structural evaluation, concept feasibility study, and structural drawings for the voluntary retrofit of the permit services building (30,000 SF, two stories) and the police department building (40,000 SF, two stories). The permit services facility was converted to support the fire department administrative services, including space for the training division, EMS, and fire prevention staff. A new board room was created to serve as a hub for the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District. The police department building was fully remodeled, including the repair of slab settlement in multiple locations and construction of a new 1,300-square-foot fitness center.
ZFA’s structural design for the EOC/911 Communications Center, a two-story, 9,000-square-foot building, consisted of structural steel moment frames designed with MiTek – Side Plate to eliminate bi-axial moment frame columns. The facility provides space for eight dispatchers, a supervisor office, bunk rooms, a breakroom, and a server room.
