Sonoma Raceway is the largest motor-sports facility in Northern California and is home to one of six road courses on the annual NASCAR Cup Series race schedule. Next to the Raceway’s famous 11th turn is a new 19,000-square-foot hospitality facility, offering a luxury indoor/outdoor venue and track viewing experience.
The primary framing of the structure consists of structural steel with a concentric steel brace frame lateral system. A biophilic design strategy was implemented through expansive glazing and bi-fold garage doors that open toward the track. Humboldt Sawmill clear redwood material was used extensively throughout the building, which contrasts and softens the feel of the otherwise steel structure. The redwood material is included on exterior eaves and interior paneling, on the front entrance barn doors and outside pergolas, and around the large steel beams spanning the interior ceilings.
Design and construction teams worked diligently and efficiently together to ensure the facility was open in time for the 2022 Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Cup Series weekend.
