ZFA was honored to help rebuild many structures impacted by the Tubbs Fire of 2017, including the award-winning Fountaingrove Clubhouse in Santa Rosa. The new 22,000-square-foot facility, built in the same location as the previous clubhouse, features a modern design that incorporates stone, wood, glass, and steel. The first floor includes a golf shop, office space, meeting space, and locker rooms, while the second story consists of a restaurant and two outdoor dining terraces.
Structural steel was utilized throughout the building to accommodate an open floor plan and thin cantilevered eaves while maintaining the modern aesthetic. The building’s lateral system included a combination of cold-formed steel shear walls and special moment frames on the upper level and special concrete shear walls on the lower level, implementing the two-stage analysis procedure of ASCE 7. A “dead-man anchor” scheme was utilized at the lower-level perimeter retaining walls to help tie the building back to resist large seismic forces on the site.
ZFA also assisted in the rapid design and construction of various temporary facilities, including a short-term clubhouse above the ninth hole, to support the club while the new building went through design and construction. Ultimately, the Country Club, with this new and vibrant indoor/outdoor space, has increased its membership and reinvigorated the Fountaingrove community.
